THE STORY BEHIND IT
Where the disc earring speaks in circles and symmetry, this piece speaks in direction — the teardrop form has a pull to it, a downward movement that gives it an entirely different energy. The shape itself is architectural: a pointed oval void at the centre, held in place by hand-carved spokes that radiate outward like the ribs of a vault, each one meeting the border at a precise angle. The negative space here is not incidental — it is the composition. The eye moves through the opening, not around it.
What contains all of this is the border, and the border is where the real ornamentation lives. A continuous ring of hand-carved floral rosettes — each one a small carved relief of petals around a raised dot centre — runs the full perimeter of the earring, slightly larger at the base and tapering as the form narrows toward the top. No two rosettes are identical. Each was carved individually, by hand, into the surface of the stone. The result is a border that rewards close attention — the more carefully you look, the more detail reveals itself.
The combination of the open geometric lattice at the centre and the dense floral relief at the border is what makes these earrings unusual — two entirely different carving techniques, two entirely different visual registers, held together in a single piece no larger than a rupee coin.
HOW TO STYLE IT
The teardrop form is naturally elongating — it draws the eye downward and lengthens the line of the neck, making these earrings particularly flattering worn with low necklines, off-shoulder silhouettes, or deep V-neck kurtas. Equally strong with a high neck or a bun, where the drop of the earring becomes the focal point of the entire look. Wear them to a wedding, a festive occasion, or any moment that calls for something handmade and quietly extraordinary.
