THE STORY BEHIND IT
In Ayurveda — the ancient Indian science of life and wellness, codified in texts thousands of years old — the practice of storing water overnight in a pure copper vessel and drinking it first thing in the morning is among the most fundamental daily rituals. The water is called Tamra Jal, meaning copper water. Over six to eight hours, copper ions leach naturally into the water through a process of ionisation, rendering it naturally alkaline and antimicrobial. Ayurvedic texts describe this water as beneficial for the liver, the spleen, and the lymphatic system — a gentle, daily act of care that asks nothing more than the habit of filling a vessel at night and drinking from it at dawn.
The vessel matters. Not because the practice requires beauty — it does not — but because a thing you reach for every morning, a thing that sits on your bedside table and is the first object you touch when you wake, deserves to be made with care. This carafe was made with care. Its form is the traditional gourd shape that copper vessels in India have taken for centuries — wide-bellied, narrow-necked, the proportions perfectly suited to being held in one hand and poured from with the other. Its exterior carries a wide band of hand-engraved floral scrollwork in the Nakashi tradition — arabesque tendrils and blossoms cut directly into the metal surface, line by line, by a craftsman working entirely freehand. The tumbler inverts over the threaded neck to seal the carafe, then lifts off to become the cup you drink from — a piece of functional design so logical and elegant it has not needed to change in generations.
The dark antique brushed finish of the exterior gives the set a quality that feels both ancient and entirely contemporary — at home on a marble bedside table in a modern apartment as easily as it would have been at home in any Indian household for the past thousand years.
HOW TO STYLE IT
Place it on your bedside table as both a functional wellness vessel and a decorative object — its dark copper and warm brass tones sit beautifully against marble, dark wood, and linen. Fill it each night, let the water rest, and drink from it each morning. A deeply considered and genuinely useful gift for anyone who values wellness, intentional daily ritual, or simply beautiful objects that do something — something that will be used every single day and appreciated more with every passing year.
