THE STORY BEHIND IT
This necklace builds toward its centrepiece the way a good piece of architecture builds toward its entrance — with intention, sequence, and a growing sense of what is coming. The strand begins simply at the back — small, smooth round seed beads that drape lightly against the neck. Then the elements begin to change. Flat disc spacers appear, then stacked rondelle forms, then two elongated ribbed cylindrical beads — each one individually hand-carved with grooved detailing — before the strand converges at the pendant.
And the pendant is worth the build. A large circular medallion hand-carved in deep relief — layers of petals radiating outward from a central carved form, each petal individually shaped and refined, the whole composition sitting as a sculptural object in its own right. The transition from the delicate seed bead strand to the substantial pendant is what gives this necklace its particular drama — the contrast between the lightness of the strand and the weight and presence of the centrepiece is entirely deliberate and entirely masterful.
