THE STORY BEHIND IT
Look closely at the body of this owl and you will see something extraordinary — the stone has been carved so deeply and so precisely that it is almost entirely hollow, a web of interlocking arches and leaf forms that lets light pass straight through. This is jali carving at its most refined — an ancient Indian technique traditionally reserved for palace screens and temple architecture, here applied to a figure small enough to sit in the palm of your hand.
Every arch, every curve, every feather line on the head and wings has been cut by hand from a single piece of soapstone. The inlaid dark stone eyes — polished to a deep, almost glassy finish — give the owl a watchful, lifelike presence that is difficult to ignore. In many traditions across the world, the owl is a symbol of wisdom, intuition, and the ability to see clearly in the dark. This one seems to embody all of that — and then some.
HOW TO STYLE IT
Display it on a bookshelf, study desk, windowsill, or bedside table where natural light can pass through its open lattice body and cast delicate shadows around it. Its pale cream tone works beautifully against deep teal, forest green, dark wood, and warm terracotta — a versatile piece that elevates any corner it occupies. A wonderfully unique gift for owl lovers, art collectors, or anyone who finds beauty in the extraordinary things human hands can create from a single piece of stone.
